What do I want to do more of this year?
Every week over the past year, when I reflect and plan for the week to come, I ask myself:
What do I want to do more of this week, and what do I want to do less of this week?Â
This is an easy question without getting too deep, and that helps me see what is working in my life. And I have to answer it quickly.
To understand what’s adding value and doing more of it.
To understand what’s detracting value and doing less of it.
For example, after thinking about the question, I might decide that I want to walk more before work and look at my phone less in the morning this week.
I then take that observation and find a way to implement it, whether that’s through adding space in my calendar, changing a routine, finding someone to hold me accountable or finding a similar activity to give me the same feelings.
It’s about observing what feels good (and what doesn’t) and doing small experiments every week.
This is also a good way to think about the new year.
What do you want to do more of, and what do you want to do less of in 2024?
Think about what made you happy or stressed this year. What filled your cup, and what emptied it? What made you feel alive, and what made you feel flat?
This reflection question can plant the seeds that help you set intentions, priorities and goals for the new year.
Remember, you don't need to have everything figured out at the start of the year.
Take your time this month to plan for the year ahead, making room for the things that you want to do more of.
You don’t have to rush things, life is going fast enough as it is. Leave space to let these thoughts come to you.
Until next time,
Kate
